Update on the Santa Cruz and San Mateo County Fires - August 21, 2020

Unless there are significant changes to the incident over the weekend, there will be no new resource information issued until Monday.

Santa Clara County Fire Department (SCCFD) and Cal Fire continue to closely monitor the fires burning in Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties known as the CZU Lightning Complex, as well as fires burning in eastern Santa Clara County, known as the SCU Lightning Complex.

SCCFD has staffed several additional fire engines and will continue to proactively staff for the near future. The CZU Lightning Complex is a dynamic incident, however there are currently no evacuations and no threat to residents in the SCCFD service area (Redwood Estates/Lexington Hills, Los Gatos, Campbell, Monte Sereno, Saratoga, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills).
 
All residents should remain aware, informed and ready to evacuate. Residents are urged to register to receive Santa Clara County emergency alerts at alertscc.com.

·    What is the difference between an evacuation order and warning?
Evacuation Order – Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access
Evacuation Warning – Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.
 
·    If there were a need to evacuate, how would I be notified?
  • Emergency Alert - via cellular and landline phone. Ensure you are registered to receive emergency alerts at alertscc.com
  • Social Media - messages will be issued via Nextdoor, Twitter and Facebook. Follow @sccfiredept to ensure you can view our updates and alerts.
  • Law Enforcement – Depending on the urgency of the evacuation and available resources, law enforcement may canvas neighborhoods and broadcast an evacuation message via loudspeaker.
