Suspect Arrested in Sexual Assault
On August 3, 2020, Davis Police responded to the 1600 block of Drew Circle regarding an attempted sexual assault that occurred in the area.
The victim was walking on a south Davis greenbelt at approximately 11:30 p.m. when she was approached from behind by the suspect. The suspect grabbed the victim and dragged her to the ground where he took her phone and threatened to shoot her. The suspect attempted to sexually assault the victim, however she was able to negotiate with him and he stopped his attack. The victim was not injured due to the assault and officers were unable to locate the suspect at that time.
After an extensive investigation, officers identified the suspect as 36 year old Jose Trinidad Perez Meza. He was arrested on August 24, 2020, at his residence in Sacramento and lodged at the Yolo County Jail. Investigators followed up the arrest with a search warrant of Perez Mezas’ residence in the 7000 block of Teekay Way in Sacramento.
Based on information gathered by Investigators, we believe there may be other victims who have not reported being assaulted by Perez Meza. Anyone who may have been a victim is asked to call the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400 and speak with Detectives.
