New County Health Order/Spare the Air Day Extended/Scam Warning: Town of Danville 8.26 Update

Town of Danville Update:  8.26.20

New Health Order Allows More Outdoor Activities

With key health indicators staying steady or slightly falling, Contra Costa County Health Services has amended the requirements around social distancing to allow for some additional activities outdoors. Areas affected by the new order include:

1.         Personal care services that do not involve close contact with the face (such as nails salons and massage) may begin operating outdoors following state issued guidelines.
2.         Gym and fitness centers may operate outdoors in accordance with state guidelines.
3.         Hotels and short-term rentals may open for personal and recreational travel.

Despite encouraging numbers, Contra Costa County remains on the State of California’s watch list. Residents are asked to continue following appropriate masking and social distancing to work on bringing those number down further.

Spare the Air Alert Extended to Friday

Smoke from the many wildfires burning in California continues to swirl through the Bay Area, creating unhealthy conditions.  Despite some improvement in air quality, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has determined that the current Spare the Air Alert should be extended through Friday, August 28, 2020.

During a Spare the Air Alert, residents are encouraged to limit strenuous outdoor activity when possible, refrain from any burning of wood or other materials, and avoid using gas-powered devices.

                         Police Issue Scam Warning

Danville Police are warning the community to be on the lookout for scams.  The latest round of scams are based around the COVID-19 virus as well as the current wildfire events happening around the state.

In one instance, a fake gofundme account was set up, purportedly to help a firefighter whose wallet was stolen, and their bank account emptied.  Other current scams revolve around providing assistance to individuals homeless following a wildfire.

Other scams police are seeing involve fake lottery winnings, settlements to lawsuits, and others promising fast cash.  In all of those cases, the ‘winner’ is asked to wire cash to cover transfer expenses, taxes etc.  A good thing to remember is that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

The community is strongly encouraged to ask questions when strangers call with offers of goods or services for free, or to seek personal information in order to ‘help’ fix a problem with an account or service.  Never give out your social security number or other personal information to a stranger.  Companies will not ask for that.  If you are approached by someone claiming to represent a company that needs your personal information, hang up and call the company offices.
