Extreme Wind Warning until 05:00AM

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a

* Extreme Wind Warning for... Cameron Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Jefferson Davis Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Beauregard Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Calcasieu Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Southwestern Vernon Parish in west central Louisiana... Allen Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Central Newton County in southeastern Texas... Eastern Orange County in southeastern Texas... East central Jasper County in southeastern Texas...

* Until 500 AM CDT.

* At 258 AM CDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar and surface observations indicated extreme winds, associated with the eyewall of Hurricane Laura, were moving onshore along a line extending from NEAR Deweyville to NEAR Singer to NEAR Welsh, moving north at 20 mph. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING SITUATION!

* Locations impacted include... Lake Charles, Sulphur, Orange, De Ridder, Cameron, Westlake, West Orange, Welsh, Vinton and Iowa.

* AFFECTED AREAS: ALLEN, LA ... ORANGE, TX ... JEFFERSON DAVIS, LA ... JASPER, TX ... CAMERON, LA ... NEWTON, TX ... BEAUREGARD, LA ... CALCASIEU, LA ... VERNON, LA

TAKE COVER NOW! Treat these imminent extreme winds as if a tornado was approaching and move immediately to the safe room in your shelter. Take action now to protect your life! The safest place to be during a major landfalling hurricane is in a reinforced interior room away from windows. Get under a table or other piece of sturdy furniture. Use mattresses, blankets or pillows to cover your head and body. Remain in place through the passage of these life-threatening conditions.
