On Sunday, August 30, 2020, at about 1:50 AM, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (Sunnyvale DPS) personnel responded to the area of Central Expressway between Mary Ave and Bernardo Ave on the report of a vehicle collision. A single vehicle was located in the eastbound lanes of Central Expressway with major damage. A 13-year-old juvenile female occupant of the vehicle was located in the roadway with major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, Bryan Gonzalez-Lopez, an adult male was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and arrested. Gonzalez-Lopez was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of 23153(a) VC, driving under the influence and 191.5(b) PC, vehicular manslaughter.
