Synopsis:
On Saturday, August 29, 2020, at approximately 4:45 PM, officers responded to the Carlsen Porsche Dealership located at 3636 Haven Avenue on the report of a carjacking involving the threat of a firearm. The suspect had been seen loitering in the closed service area of the car dealership. When confronted, the suspect asked some questions about a vehicle and was directed to the sales floor where he was introduced to the victim who was working as a sales associate. The victim retrieved keys to a vehicle the suspect expressed interest in looking at closer. The two of them sat in the vehicle and started the engine for further evaluation. After a short time, the engine was turned off and both exited the vehicle. At this point, the suspect reached under his clothing in a deliberate move and the victim saw what appeared to be the outline of a handgun being displayed at him. The suspect demanded the keys to the vehicle in a verbal exchange that implied harm to the victim if he did not cooperate. Fearing for his life, the victim relinquished the keys and the suspect drove off the dealership lot in the vehicle.

The investigating Redwood City Police officer broadcast a BOL describing the Porsche vehicle and armed suspect described as a younger black male adult. Within minutes of the BOL broadcast, a searching Redwood City officer located the vehicle in question traveling northbound on Hwy 101. The observing officer confirmed the identity of the stolen vehicle through a match on license plate numbers provided by the victim. The officer continued to follow the suspect at a safe distance until CHP units took over the pursuit and initiated a vehicle stop in the area of South San Francisco, prior to crossing the San Mateo Bridge, Hwy 92. Once CHP units took over pursuit of the suspect, Redwood City patrol officers returned to Redwood City and monitored the pursuit through updates provided by Redwood City dispatch. The suspect refused to stop and continued to evade the pursuing CHP officers as he traveled through the cities of Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, Union City, and Fremont. With a continued threat to other vehicles on the roadway and the suspect intentionally ramming a CHP motor officer, the CHP initiated a vehicle boxing maneuver in Fremont and eventually detained the driver, later identified as Jeremy Morton, 25 years old, out of Hayward, who is on probation for felony assault out of Alameda County.

Redwood City Police detectives responded to Fremont and took custody of the suspect and booked him into San Mateo County Jail for the felony violation of Carjacking, Penal Code 215(a). Additional charges will be filed by the CHP in Alameda County for felony evasion of the police, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer for the intentional ramming a CHP motor officer, and a violation of the terms and conditions of probation.
