Arrest Made in Murder Investigation – Additional Information Sought
On Sunday, August 30, 2020, at approximately 1:15 AM the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the 3400 block of Lakeshore Blvd, in unincorporated North Lakeport, to investigate the report of a vehicle colliding with a utility pole. Upon arrival, responding officers along with officers from other assisting agencies including emergency medical staff from the Lakeport Fire Protection District (LFPD) determined that a male passenger, later identified as Yancy McCloud Jr., 29, of Nice, CA, was unresponsive. Life saving measures were taken at the scene and McCloud was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
During the course of the investigation it was determined that McCloud did not have injuries consistent with a traffic collision and it was believed that he was deceased prior to the collision.
Further information was developed that suggested McCloud died of injuries inflicted during an earlier physical altercation with Wynona Starr Anderson, 29, of Nice CA, whom he had a relationship with. The altercation occurred in the City of Lakeport. Based on this information CHP Officers contacted the Lakeport Police Department (LPD) who immediately began a homicide investigation.
During the course of the investigation throughout the day yesterday, August 30, LPD Officers developed information confirming the earlier beliefs. Based on the facts and circumstances known to us, officers believed that McCloud was the victim of homicide committed by Anderson. At approximately 2 PM on August 30, 2020, LPD Officers arrested and booked Anderson for murder. At the time of the arrest, Anderson was already in custody at the Lake County Correctional Facility due to CHP Officers having arrested her for driving under the influence, driving without a license, being under the influence of controlled substances and a unrelated misdemeanor arrest warrant. Anderson remains in custody on bail of $1,000,000.00.
This investigation remains ongoing to include further vehicle examination, evidence processing and an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of McCloud’s death.
Anyone with information regarding the activities of McCloud and Anderson during the day prior to this incident is asked to contact LPD Lieutenant Dale Stoebe at [email protected] or by telephone at 707-263-5491.
