City of Davis Community Message

It has come to the attention of the Davis Police Department that an unknown person is using the names and ranks of current Davis Police Department officers to solicit funds in a fraudulent manner.

The Davis Police Department was made aware of at least one such incident that occurred today, September 1, 2020. During this incident, the male suspect called a Davis resident on the telephone and falsely identified himself by the actual name and rank of a Davis Police Department officer. The fraudulent caller then claimed that the Davis resident had a criminal warrant issued by the Davis Police Department they would be subject to “arrest” unless they paid $5000.

It is important that the community be aware that the Davis Police Department, or other law enforcement agencies, will not contact community members in an attempt to solicit or collect money over the telephone.

Please take precautions when communicating with strangers on the telephone or by email. Never provide private, personal or financial information, including credit card or bank account numbers. When in doubt, call the Police Department on our publicly published number, not one that is provided, to confirm the legitimacy of the contact. Anyone who has received similar calls or solicitations is asked to call the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400.
