...Dangerous Heat Possible Over the Labor Day Weekend... .Widespread triple digit record heat is possible Labor Day weekend across the San Joaquin Valley, foothills, and Kern County Mountains and deserts due to a strong high pressure system. There is the potential for moderate to very high heat risk during this time, which could impact the general population, especially those spending an extended time outdoors. Any localized dense smoke and haze may impact these temperatures.

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 105 to 115 possible.

* WHERE...Indian Wells Valley and Kern County Desert.

* WHEN...From 1 PM Friday to 9 PM PDT Monday.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

* AFFECTED AREAS: INDIAN WELLS VALLEY ... KERN COUNTY DESERT

Instructions:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
