Advisory

September 4, 2020 Coronavirus update from Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MAYOR GRASSO ON COVID-19 / CORONAVIRUS
Friday, September 4, 2020
BURR RIDGE IN WEST SUBURBAN REGION 8 – “MASK FOR US”

The total case count in Burr Ridge now is 232. The 14-day active case count for the Village overall is 26 since August 22. This trend remains stable. I continue to be optimistic in saying that Burr Ridge, at least, has weathered the recent spikes and that we can feel with some confidence that locally the trend is downward, but that remain cautious optimism on my part. It is not a signal to relax our behaviors – including hand washing. Just because you wear a mask does not mean you can relax the number of times you wash your hands. When you are out and can wash your hands, please do so. Certainly, when you return home, go straight to the sink and use warm water and plenty of soap.

Illinois is on Dr. Fauci’s watch list of seven states that are seeing higher overall counts and now the flu season is upon us. Get your flu shots now. Illinois reported an anomaly day results of over 5,000 positive tests that appear to an aggregated of the last several days. The statewide positivity rate actually decreased to just over 4.0%. Cook County was removed from the watch list, meaning it too is trending down or is stable. Kane, our partner county forming West Suburban Region 8 also was removed from the watch list. These are all good trends.

Our very own Metro Infectious Disease Consultants in Burr Ridge – that I mentioned before for all it great work during the pandemic – has begun an FDA approved investigational drug study on COVID Convalescent Plasma. This therapy was tested on hospitalized patients through the Mayo protocol. This study is being conducted at our Burr Ridge office only. Qualified candidates must have proof of COVID infection and be symptomatic. The goal is to treat patients and avoid the need for hospitalization. Anyone interested in the study should call 1-844-CCP-MIDC to enroll or obtain more information

I again was on last Monday’s mayors call August 31st with the DuPage BOH leadership and they remain cautiously pessimistic that a flare-up combined with the normal flu season convergence could make matters worse- quickly. The BOH reminded the mayors to remind their residents that COVID-19 cannot be prevented with a seasonal flu shot, but it remains the wise thing to go – get a flu shot for your overall heath.

Finally, with both conventions over, I am reminding you that it is time to learn, ask, read, consider and decide who to vote for in November. 2020 is not only another historic presidential election, but candidates are running for congress, Illinois seats, county board, and county officers, and judges. Your vote counts.
