TODAY: Cooling Center Open at the Fremont Community Center (Central Park) Until 6 PM, Red Flag Warning Begins at 10 PM

For those needing some relief from the heat and poor air quality due to smoky and hazy conditions from recent wildfires, the City of Fremont’s Cooling/Air Quality Center is open today until 6 PM at the Fremont Community Center (in Central Park) located at 40204 Paseo Padre Pkwy.  Space is limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and face coverings are required.  If you don't have a face covering, a staff member will provide one for you.  Cooling Center visitors are encouraged to bring water, snacks and something to keep them occupied throughout their stay, such as a book or crossword puzzle.

Starting at 10 PM tonight, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning through 8 AM on Wednesday, September 9, 2020.  A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions will occur in the form of low humidity, high heat and wind. Red Flag Warnings are typically issued for weather events that may result in extreme fire behavior within 24 hours.

The Fremont Fire Department will have extra firefighters on duty to increase fire protection in the City of Fremont.  We encourage Fremont residents, businesses and visitors to be extremely cautious during the Red Flag Warning and throughout the days ahead as high fire danger continues.

The extreme heat we’re experiencing is rare. Please stay hydrated by drinking extra water, limit outdoor activities, check on the elderly, kids & pets, and never leave a loved one or pet in an unattended vehicle.
