Northfield Twp Police handled 601 calls for service this month

08/03/2020 *Reckless Driving / Recreational Trespass / Crash Investigation
3100 Block of Six Mile – Officers responded to a shots fired complaint but discovered a vehicle on its’ side in an adjacent field. A 15 year old had taken a family vehicle without permission and was driving in a reckless and unsafe manner. No occupants appeared injured. The juvenile driver and all occupants were turned over to their parents. . The driver of the vehicle was issued citations and the vehicle was impounded. The owner of the property advised there was no property damage.

08/06/2020 *Arrest –Operating While Intoxicated
Main St & Six Mile Rd – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle disregard the stop sign. During the traffic stop, the Officer recognized signs of intoxication by the driver. The driver further showed signs during the sobriety tasks. After refusing to consent to a blood draw, a search warrant was requested and issued for the driver’s blood. The driver was arrested and his vehicle impounded.

08/06/2020 *Attempt B & E Business
6800 Block of Whitmore Lake - A complainant reported that on Thursday August 6 at approximately 1 am, a perpetrator arrived and attempted to remove a secured tractor mower from the lot. In addition, an outside fenced storage received damage suggesting the perpetrator may have also attempted to gain entry. A pickup truck may have been involved. If anyone has information regarding this incident they are asked to call the Northfield Twp Police.

08/06/2020 *Misdemeanor Citation Driving on A Suspended License
Main & N. Main – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle bearing an expired plate. Upon stop of the vehicle, the driver could not produce a license, valid registration and stated she had no insurance. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a ticket for Driving on a Suspended license, expired plates and no proof of insurance.

08/07/2020 *B & E Business
6800 Block of Whitmore Lake – An Officer responded to an alarm to discover damage to an outside storage fence and evidence suggesting a suspect was preparing to remove property from the business. At the time of the report, it does not appear that anything had been taken. The property was secured and the case remains under investigation.

08/12/2020 *Arrest - Strong Armed Robbery
Westbrook – A victim reported that after showing an acquaintance a handgun; the acquaintance forced the gun out of the victim’s hand and left the residence. The victim knew very little about the acquaintance, but through the investigation the suspect was identified. Northfield Twp Police working with ATF & MSP located the suspect and the firearm was recovered. The suspect who was out on parole was arrested and is facing federal prosecution. In addition to the recovery of the victim’s firearm, a second firearm was also recovered. This firearm had not yet been reported stolen, but was taken from another residence within our township.

08/12/2020 *Hit & Run Westbrook- The maintenance supervisor reported that an unknown vehicle struck an on-site garbage dumpster, causing it to break a portion of a wooden fence. The responding Officer collected evidence and the case remains under investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this incident they are asked to contact Northfield Twp Police.

08/12/2020 *Fraud
East Shore – A victim reported that she made a Dyson cordless vacuum purchase from an on-line website listed as “Home Electronics Company”. Paying through her Pay Pal account, the victim received a receipt, but never received the vacuum. After filing the police report the victim’s account was refunded.

***Be cautious of pop up adds that offer “Too Good to be True” deals. Attempt phone contact, review addresses and read reviews to help determine the legitimacy of the company promoting such deals

08/16/2020 *Fraudulent Purchase Agreement
Emerald Circle – The victim stated that he posted a laptop for sale on ebay – after accepting an offer, but before receiving any payment, the victim mailed the laptop to an out of state address. The victim stated he never received any money into his account and can no longer contact the buyer. The victim was advised to contact both ebay and Apple regarding the incident.

**** Be cautious when selling or buying through internet sites. Always check references and information on the buyer

08/16/2020 *Harassment/Threats
Five Mile – A complainant reported that after making a TikTok video, her 10 year old daughter and cheer-mates have been receiving hateful, threatening comments from an unknown individual. Reports have been filed by other teammates, in other cities, but no suspect has been identified.

*** Be cautious when using Social Networks to promote your family and their activities – Children should only use the app with adult supervision and always make your account private.

Often accounts are public by default, allowing anyone to see your posts/videos, allowing for direct messages to be sent and also allowing for information on your location.

08/16/2020 * Hit & Run
6200 Block of Sutton – A homeowner reported that after hearing a loud crash at 3 am, he investigated to discover his mailbox destroyed. An Officer attempted to follow vehicle tracks, but was unable to locate the striking vehicle. Evidence was collected at the scene and if anyone has any information regarding this incident they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police.

08/17/2020 *Malicious Destruction of Property
3500 Block of E. N. Territorial – An Officer on patrol observed a rural style mailbox laying broken in a field. The Officer was able to determine the owner of the box and confirmed that sometime between Monday 08/17 at 8 pm and Tuesday 08/18, 8 am.; the mailbox was knocked off its’ post and destroyed. No suspects or witnesses were identified at the time of this report.

08/18/2020 *Harassment/Stalking
Walnut Dr – A complainant reported that a previous friend will not accept that the complainant no longer wants contact with the subject. The subject would not let the friendship end – pursing the complainant through numerous phone and text contacts. The investigating Officer made contact with the suspect, identifying the crime of Harassment, and advised that any future contact would be met with criminal charges. The subject agreed to end future contact.

08/21/2020 *Larceny
8600 Block of Palma Ln – A complainant reported that an ebay purchase was made, but when she received the re-taped packaged envelop, the contents was missing. The Officer completed the report and advised the complainant to contact the U.S Postal Inspectors.

08/21/2020 *Malicious Destruction of Property
3500 Block of E. N. Territorial - At approximately 10:40 am an Officer on patrol discovered a broken mail receptacle. The owner advised that he had been to his mailbox earlier in the morning. No witnesses or suspects were identified at the time of the report.

08/21/2020 *Larceny
1900 Block of Seven Mile Rd – A witness reported that he observed a female exit a vehicle and take a “Trump” sign from a residential yard. The witness provided information on the vehicle and the Officer was able to determine the owner of the vehicle. The Officer located the vehicle which still had the stolen sign. Three juvenile females suspects were identified, parents notified, and the property was recovered and returned to the owner. No prosecution was desired by the owner of the sign.

08/22/2020 *Stolen Motor Vehicle
1500 Block of Seven Mile Rd – A complainant reported that on Friday 08/21 after working on a vehicle and parking it; someone removed the vehicle from the property without the owner or the complainant’s permission. Northfield Twp Police are attempting to identify three persons of interest. #1 described as a white male 26-28 years of age, thin build with a “scruffy” beard, #2 & #3 were described as mixed race males, between 20-30 years of age. If anyone has information on a Dark Blue 2002 Grand Prix, they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police.. The Case remains under investigation.

08/23/2020 *Recovered Stolen Vehicle
U.S 23 & Barker – An Officer on patrol observed an abandoned vehicle on the shoulder of the road. While completing a check of the vehicle, it was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen out of Flint. The vehicle was impounded and Flint PD was advised of the recovery.

08/23/2020 *Traffic Incident
U.S 2 & Six Mile Rd – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle with an expired plate. During a traffic stop the Officer further determined the vehicle was being driven without insurance. The driver was issued a citation for expired plates, the vehicle was impounded and a misdemeanor warrant was requested for driving a motor vehicle on the roadway without insurance.

08/23/2020 *Identity Theft-Fraudulent Unemployment Claim
6400 Block of Earhart – A complainant reported that she has received more than one letter asking her to verify her claim for unemployment or identify if it was a fraudulent claim. The complainant has notified her employer and flagged herself on the unemployment site and other state fraudulent sites.

08/28/2020 *Arrest– Driving while License Suspended/Open Intoxicants–Fugitive Warrants
Six Mile & U.S. 23 – An Officer on patrol observed a traffic violation. During the traffic stop the Officer discovered the driver had a suspended license, did not have insurance on the vehicle, had outstanding warrants and was driving with open alcohol. The female driver was arrested and her vehicle impounded. After processing, the subject was released, and charges have been presented to the prosecutor’s office.

08/29/2020 *Fraud Complaint
300 Block of East Shore – A victim reported that she discovered several unfamiliar charges against her financial account. The case remains open, awaiting additional information regarding the transactions.

08/29/2020 *Arrest – Driving on a Suspended License / Underage Use of a Vape Pen
Barker & U.S. 23 – An Officer on patrol stopped a motorized vehicle driving on the non-motorized pathway. The driver could not produce a license and was using a vape pen while being less than 21 years of age. The Officer the driver had a suspended license. The driver was arrested, given citations and released at the scene. The vehicle was impounded.
