Current Initiatives and Updates

  • Thank You for Wearing a Face Covering– Our community, our health, and our responsibility - thank you, Manhattan Beach, for wearing your face coverings when leaving home!
  • Reporting Public Health Order Violations - As Los Angeles County remains in Tier 1 (Widespread Community Transmission) in the Blueprint for a Safer Economy, if you see a Public Health Order Violation, report it. Reporting violations help slow the spread and keep others safe; it will help get children and teachers back to their classrooms, and more people back to their jobs. The Department of Public Health (DPH) has an online form (also available on the City's coronavirus page) where pictures of the violation may be attached but is not required. If you choose not to make a complaint online, contact the DPH Call Center at (888) 700-9995 Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Businesses of all sizes, most private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters may apply for SBA federal disaster loans to repair or replace disaster-damaged property. • Cal/OSHA Issues Citations to Multiple Employers for COVID-19 Violations - Cal/OSHA has cited 11 employers for not protecting employees from COVID-19 exposure during inspections of industries where workers have an elevated risk of exposure. The industries include food processing, meatpacking, health care, agriculture, and retail. Cal/OSHA has created guidance for many industries, including videos, daily checklists, and details on how to protect workers from the virus. This guidance provides a roadmap for employers' existing obligations to protect workers from COVID-19. Complaints about workplace safety and health hazards can be filed confidentially with Cal/OSHA district offices. Visit dir.ca.gov for more information.
  • Don't Wait: Non-Filers Can Still Get a Payment - Though most have already received their Economic Impact Payments, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reminds anyone with little or no income which is not required to file a tax return that they may be eligible to receive an Economic Impact Payment but must act by October 15. The Non-Filers tool is designed for people with incomes typically below $24,400 for married couples, $12,200 for singles, and individuals who are experiencing homelessness. The IRS urges everyone to look out for scams using email, phone calls, or texts related to these payments. For more details on the Economic Impact Payment, including updated answers to frequently asked questions and other resources, visit IRS.gov/coronavirus.

  • Planning for Adult Care with Disabilities During COVID-19 –The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Emergency Support created a Discharged Planning and Care Coordination Reference Tool. The tool was designed to support caregivers for adults with disabilities who received care or treatment for COVID-19 illness in an acute care setting, that are no longer COVID-19 positive, and require continuation or reconnection to supports and services. During the pandemic, individuals may have separated from these supports and services if they moved to alternate settings for isolation, quarantine, or medical care due to illness. • CARES Act Supports Consumers During the Pandemic - The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued a report examining the early effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumer credit. Following the onset of COVID-19, consumers have not experienced significant increases in delinquency or other adverse credit outcomes, as reported in credit record data despite the sharp increases in unemployment. The report focused on mortgage, student and auto loans, and credit card accounts from March 2020 to June 2020, and notes that outcomes may reflect payment assistance provided to consumers through the CARES Act. • L.A. County Daily Briefing Statistics on COVID-19 – DPH confirmed seven new deaths, one new case of COVID-19 in Manhattan Beach, and 439 new cases of COVID-19 in L.A. County in today's daily report. The low number of new cases today reflect both a lag in reporting and less testing availability over the Labor Day holiday weekend. To date, DPH identified 249,241 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County, and a total of 6,036 deaths; ninety-two percent of people who died had underlying health conditions. Testing results are available for more than 2,385,000 individuals, with 10% of all people testing positive. There are 942 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 currently hospitalized, and 33% of these people are documented cases in the ICU. To view DPH's COVID-19 Daily Data, visit lacounty.gov.
