Update from Mayor Bhalla on COVID-19 (9/10): testing with Prompt MD Monday, flu shots available next week
Below is an update from Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla on COVID-19:
Impact of COVID-19 in Hoboken
The Hoboken Health Department reported the following new COVID-19 cases:
September 6: 0
September 7: 1
September 8: 0
September 9: 0
One previous case was removed by the Health Department. Hoboken now has a total of 729 known, confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Fatalities remain unchanged at 31.
Testing open at both Prompt MD pop-up site on Monday, and Riverside Medical
Prompt MD is hosting COVID-19 testing on Monday, September 14 from 8 am until 3 pm at our pop-up site at 605 Jackson Street. Appointments are available on a first-come, first-serve basis online at www.hobokennj.gov/promptmd. The Prompt MD pop-up site has the capacity to test up to 350 residents per day. If you traveled on vacation and returned from the Labor Day weekend, the testing option is an ideal time (at least 5-7 days after returning) to obtain a test.
Riverside Medical is also continuing regular testing under the 14th Street Viaduct, and residents can schedule a test by calling 201-420-5621 Monday through Friday, from 9 am until 1 pm. As before, Riverside is currently utilizing some PCR (non-rapid) testing due to a national shortage of rapid, 15-minute tests.
Thank you to both Dr. Islam and Dr. Brahmbhatt and their staffs for continuing to partner with the City of Hoboken to provide this much needed COVID-19 testing.
Flu shots offered by Hoboken Family Pharmacy
More than ever before, it’s important for residents to obtain a flu shot, even if you haven’t traditionally gotten one in previous years. Given the possibility that the flu season could coincide with continued COVID-19 cases, reducing those with the flu will help us prioritize healthcare and testing resources for those who may be at risk is critical.
To that end, the City of Hoboken has partnered with the Hoboken Family Pharmacy to offer flu shots for Hoboken residents at 605 Jackson Street between 8 am and 3 pm on Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18. Appointments are required and available on a first-come, first serve basis - please sign up at http://www.hobokennj.gov/hfp. Most insurance plans cover all or most of the cost of a flu shot, however we suggest residents check with their insurance companies to be on the safe side.
If you are unable to make it to obtain a flu shot with Hoboken Family Pharmacy next week, most medical facilities and pharmacies in Hoboken offer walk-in flu shots as well. Based on the demand, Hoboken Family Pharmacy could return for additional flu shot testing in later weeks.
Upcoming Blood Drive
The next City-sponsored blood drive will take place Monday, September 14 at the Multi Service Center (124 Grand Street) from 2-7 pm with the American Red Cross. Appointments are required to donate, and please be sure to wear a mask. If you are symptomatic or have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID within the last 14 days, you will not be eligible to donate. To sign up for an appointment, please go to:

Open Streets, which is restricted to pedestrian and bike traffic only, will occur on Washington Street every Thursday and Saturday from 6 pm until 11 pm, and on Sundays from noon to 8 pm.

I’m pleased that Hoboken had only a select few incidents of overcrowding during the first few days of our indoor dining, thank the large majority of businesses for facilitating socially distanced, responsible behavior. Members of our social distancing task force were out last Friday and Saturday night helping work with businesses to maintain appropriate indoor capacity.
I also appreciate the residents who have written to the City through our [email protected] email so we can further assist our businesses with any social distancing issues that may arise.

Thank you to Kimberli Craft
I want to thank Hoboken’s Engineer, Kim Craft for her service to our City. Kim, who is transitioning to retirement, has been a big part of our COVID-19 response helping coordinate our parklets and streateries program for our small businesses, and has played an important role in some of our biggest quality of life projects including water main replacements, road paving, and more. We wish her the best in her next steps.
Sincerely,
Ravi S. Bhalla
