BURR RIDGE IS IN WEST SUBURBAN REGION 8 – “MASK FOR US”
The total case count in Burr Ridge now is 239; up seven since my September 4 Mayor Message. The 14-day active case count for the Village overall is 29. Statewide, there were 2,145 new cases with 32 deaths reported today; two in Cook, none in DuPage County. While locally our case counts continue to remain stable, DuPage County made the warning list for the first time. New cases in DuPage have increased over 110% in the last 14 days (August 29-today) from the previous 14 days (August 15-28). Those are numbers trending in the wrong direction and result in me raising the caution flag. The virus is persistent and simply will not subside.
Masking and washing remain the mantra of the day. Just because you wear a mask does not mean you can relax the number of times you wash your hands. When you are out and can wash your hands, please do so. When you return home, go straight to the sink and use warm water and plenty of soap. Social distancing is necessary – the virus is more likely to reach you if you engage a person or persons in conversation for ten minutes or more – even if you are six feet apart. Thus, wearing a mask while eating or drinking beverages may be awkward, it is an annoyance, but it is a goal to achieve. Hold it to your face when servers come to your table.
Burr Ridge’s Metro Infectious Disease Consultants – which I have mentioned before for all its great work during the pandemic – continues its pursuit of a FDA approved investigational drug study on COVID Convalescent Plasma. This therapy was tested on hospitalized patients through the Mayo protocol. The study at MIDC is being led by our own Dr. Russ Petrak. Qualified candidates must have proof of COVID infection and be symptomatic. The goal is to treat patients without hospitalization. Anyone interested in the study should call (844) CCP-MIDC to enroll or obtain more information.
Residents have inquired about recent robocalls seeking information about local issues. The Village does not engage in such practices nor are they being made on behalf or at the behest of the Village.
Finally, it is September 11, a date as infamous as December 7 for Americans that shall reside in the halls of treachery for eternity. December 7 was a military attack on military targets and men and women in our armed forces. September 11 was a terrorist attack on civilians that deserves history’s severest condemnation. Take a moment in this most unusual year of 2020 to remember the lost lives and mass destruction at and around the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon and United Flight 93 that gave us “let’s roll” as Todd Beamer and others stormed the cockpit. Todd was just 32 years old; his wife Lisa delivered their third child four months later.

“The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom.” — Rudy Giuliani
