SUBJECT: Burglar Detained by Homeowner During Residential Burglary

ACCUSED: Anthony J. Brienza 19 year old male of Marlboro, NJ
NARRATIVE: On September 13, 2020 at approximately 4:53 am, patrol officers were dispatched to a residence on Old Farm Road for a report of an unknown person inside the residence. The homeowner was able to detain the subject until officers arrived on scene. The subject was identified by officers as Anthony Brienza. During the course of the on scene investigation, the in home surveillance system was reviewed by officers. The surveillance video showed Brienza entering the home through an unsecured door and then attempting to disable the surveillance system. Brienza removed several items from the residence and was confronted by the homeowner when he entered the master bedroom. A brief struggle ensued when he attempted to flee the residence.
Brienza was placed under arrest and charged with Robbery, Burglary, Theft and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was committed to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute pending a court appearance.
