This morning the Bobcat Fire is at 36,366 acres and 6 percent containment. Crews today will be focused on strengthening and improving the fireline between the south end of the fire and the foothills communities. When possible, control lines will be established on the fires edge and you can expect to see strategic firing operations as part of this effort. Due to the increase in visibility, Duarte residents should expect to see a lot of air support during daylight hours. Fire growth is limited above Duarte due to protection lines and Fish Fire burn scar. Fire crews are working diligently to add additional protection lines above Duarte and slow the forward progression. The fire has crossed to the west side of Santa Anita Canyon and is growing in the direction of Mt. Wilson and Mt. Harvard, and continued line construction and strategic firing will be occurring in this area as well. On the north end the fire has reached Bear Creek and will continue to spread west along the crest. So far crews have been successful at picking up all spot fires that have crossed Highway 2 and will continue with these efforts. The fire is holding to the west side of Highway 39 and crews will continue to work at maintaining this perimeter. Down power lines are located off of Highway 39 due to the fire.

Tonight, fire management will host a virtual public meeting via Zoom at 6:30 PM. Representatives from the Bobcat Fire will be available to provide an update and respond to your questions. Join online at: usfs.zoomgov.com/J/1609926478
