The Bobcat Fire is now at 41,231 acres with 3 percent containment. Firefighters worked diligently last night into this morning with a focus on protecting Mt. Wilson and the foothills communities. The fire reached within ¾ to ½ mile northwest in the direction of Mt. Wilson Observatory on the southwest and the upper portions of Spanish Creek in the southeast. Strategic burn operations began yesterday and went late into the evening last night to protect the infrastructure around Mt. Wilson. An increase in resources is allowing firefighters to expand efforts to reduce the fire’s growth. Today’s primary focus remains at keeping the fire from reaching Mt. Wilson and the foothill communities. The strategic burn operation (Firing Operations) will continue as weather conditions permit. Firing Operations are being conducted around the Arcadia Wilderness Park today. Residents of Arcadia can expect to see fire activity in close proximity to the evacuated area. Firing Operations in Monrovia thus far have been successful. Fire crews are reinforcing the protection lines with heavy equipment and air support. Secondary priority will be to keep the fire south of Highway 2. Aircraft will be utilized to actively support ground resources as visibility allows. The Closure Order for National Forests in Southern California has been extended to September 21. Highway 39 will remain closed, however Glendora Mountain Road is scheduled to open at 4 PM today to residents of the Camp Williams area. Residents must have identification and the ability to identify themselves as living in the area in order to enter Glendora Mountain Road. For those community members who were unable to log-on to the zoom community meeting, the Public Information Officer is working on closed-captioning and will provide a link to video as soon as available. Encanto Park is being used as an emergency Landing Zone to refuel Helicopters. Park will remain closed for several days more.
Evacuation Orders: An evacuation order has been issued for all residents north of Elkins Ave. and east of Santa Anita Ave. in the City of Arcadia and portions of Sierra Madre. Residents are advised to evacuate the area using Santa Anita Avenue. San Gabriel Canyon including Camp Williams remains under an Evacuation Order, however, at 4:00 p.m. today, the evacuation order may be lifted allowing residents who live in the Camp Williams area to return home. A Red Cross Evacuation Center has been established at Santa Anita Park, located at 285 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia. Residents are advised to enter through Gate 5.
