Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of September 7-13

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 09-08-20 at 6:51 p.m., Officer Smith was dispatched to the police station to take a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred the prior day. Due to a language barrier, the victim’s daughter translated for him. The victim, a 75-year old San Francisco resident, said the day prior, took a chartered bus to Graton Casino. He said a male on the bus started making threatening comments to him, saying he was going to kill him. The victim was familiar with the subject, as they used to be friends. The victim told the subject to leave him alone. They both got off the bus at the casino and had no contact. Later, both men got back on the chartered bus to return home. The victim said at about 5:20 p.m., he got off the bus at Mission Street/Evergreen Avenue to catch a connecting bus home. The victim said the subject again began yelling at him and threatening him. The victim said he was trying to leave, but the suspect kept following him. The victim said the suspect was holding a screwdriver and began attempting to stab him with it. The victim said the subject got close enough to make contact and attempted to stab him in the eyes. The victim raised his hands to guard his face, and he said the screwdriver hit his hand, causing a puncture, followed by bleeding. The victim was able to get on to the 14 Mission MUNI bus, and the driver did not let the suspect onto the bus, as he had just seen the crime occur. The victim took the bus to his residence in the City and took an ambulance to the hospital. The victim did not report the crime at the time, as he did not speak English. The victim said the suspect lives about three blocks from him, and whenever he sees him, the victim said the suspect threatens to kill him. The victim was able to obtain an Emergency Protective Order against the suspect, an 82-year old San Francisco resident. This case is still under investigation.

On Wednesday, 09-09-20 at 6:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Lucky’s supermarket on a report of an armed robbery via knife that just occurred. The security guard gave a description of the subject and said the subject was last seen walking northbound on Mission Street. Officer Hightower talked to the security guard who said when she confronted a male for stealing items, he told her he purchased the items from Smart and Final. The security guard said the male physically bumped her and picked up his bag and proceeded to exit the store. The Assistant Manager joined the security guard and approached the subject. At that point, the subject reached into his pocket, displayed a knife to them and walked out of the store. Officer Gill was on the 200 block of Miriam Street and found a male matching the description of the subject. The two parties positively identified the subject, and Officer Hightower placed the subject, a 31-year old Mill Valley resident, under arrest for robbery and concealing a dirk or dagger.

On Thursday, 09-10-20 at 3:57 p.m., Officer Haas contacted a subject using an electric motorized scooter on the sidewalk on the 6300 block of Mission Street. The subject had a temporary I.D. card, and the dispatcher advised the subject had outstanding warrants, and his last arrest was for a drug-related offense. Officer Haas conducted a search of the suspect, with the suspect’s consent, and he found a baggie containing heroin. The officer found 16 EBT Visa cards that did not belong to him, and two pieces of mail from the EDD that did not belong to him. Officer Haas found a large sum of cash in the subject’s pants pocket. The subject also had a glass pipe in the shorts he wore underneath his pants. Officer Haas arrested the suspect, a 37-year old Daly City resident, for possession of a controlled substance, identity theft, grand theft of lost property, three warrants, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Saturday, 09-12-20 at 6:50 p.m., Officer Aquila was on patrol near Como Avenue and Hillside Boulevard and heard a loud noise coming from Hillside Boulevard that sounded like a car had struck something. Officer Aquila noticed a Camry that had the right front end on the sidewalk, and then the vehicle reversed back onto the street. Officer Aquila contacted the driver of the vehicle, and he immediately smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle after the driver unrolled the window. Officer Aquila conducted field sobriety tests on the driver, a 25-year old San Francisco resident, and she failed the tests. Officer Aquila cited the subject for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Saturday, 09-12-20 at approximately 9:36 p.m., Officer Davis and Officer Tualaulelei conducted a traffic stop on the unit block of Poncetta Drive. They subsequently arrested a 46-year old Daly City resident for being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, carrying a concealed stolen firearm, being a prohibited person carrying ammunition, possession of a high capacity magazine, possession of a controlled substance, driving without a license, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

On Sunday, 09-13-20 at 2:03 p.m., Officer Perez, Officer Aquila, Officer Arguelles and Officer Kett were dispatched to the area of Geneva Avenue and Rio Verde Street on a report of a subject who attacked a woman in front of the Dollar Store. The reporting party gave a description of the subject to the dispatcher and said the subject was walking towards Mission Street. The dispatcher updated the officers that the subject was seen attempting to break into a vehicle. The owner of the vehicle confronted the subject and said the subject brandished a knife at her. Officer Kett talked to the first victim who works for the Bayshore Market. The victim said she witnessed the subject reach into the vegetable stand, take several pieces of fruit and concealed them in her jacket. The 46-year old victim followed the subject and demanded her to return the items. The victim said as they approached the front entrance of the Dollar Store, the suspect turned toward her, screamed at her and, with a closed fist, punched her on the left side of her face, knocking her down. About 10 minutes later, Officer Perez responded to the area to investigate the attempted vehicle burglary by the same suspect involved in the robbery. The victim of the auto burglary said she was being driven by her husband when she saw the suspect standing next to her car, and it appeared she was tampering with the vehicle door. The 30-year old victim said her husband double parked their vehicle next to her car, and she exited the vehicle and confronted the suspect. The victim said the suspect was using a knife to stab the door handle. The victim feared that the suspect was going to stab her, and she ran back to her car. On Monday, 09-14-20 at 10:41 a.m., Sergeant Busalacchi and Lieutenant Brennan were driving northbound on Santos Street from Velasco Street and saw a female subject who matched the description of the subject who was involved in the two crimes the prior day. The 30-year old transient subject was subsequently arrested for robbery, attempted burglary, and brandishing a weapon.

This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there.
