Mail Thief Arrested
SUBJECT: Subject Arrest for Mail Theft

LOCATION: West Park Avenue in Ocean Township
ACCUSED: Denzel Bernard 22 year old male of Staten Island, NY
NARRATIVE: On August 8th, 2020 at approximately 3:45 am Officer Brian Shannon of the US Postal Inspector’s Office, was conducting surveillance at a local post office in reference to numerous thefts that had occurred from a mailbox. At approximately 0345 hours he observed the suspect fishing inside of the mailbox in an attempt to remove several pieces of mail. Officers from the Ocean Township Police Department responded and assisted in arresting the subject. The subject was identified as 22 year old Denzel Bernard of Staten Island. Bernard was transported to Ocean Township Police Headquarters and charged accordingly. He was released on a summons pending a future court appearance.
Further investigation into this incident revealed that Bernard was involved in several other thefts from the mailbox over the course of several months. On September 17th, 2020 Bernard was charged with several additional counts of Theft, Possession of Burglar Tools, Receiving Stolen Property, and Conspiracy to Commit Check Fraud.
