Gardiner, Maine, September 2020 — A free online webinar titled “Understanding Cultural Competency and Implicit Bias” will be offered to Greater Gardiner community members on September 20th.
 
Lindsay Gannon from Hart Consulting will present a one-hour webinar followed by a half hour panelist discussion on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Panelists include Gardiner resident and Police Officer Samuel Quintana and Gardiner resident Brittany Grant.
 
This will be an online zoom webinar with closed captioning. The link will be available on the City of Gardiner Facebook Page and its webpage at GardinerMaine.com.
 
Greater Gardiner Community Conversations is an initiative led by community members in partnership with the city to understand racism, inequities, and the impact on our central Maine communities. Members include Gardiner Area Thrives Coalition, MSAD #11 representatives, City of Gardiner, Gardiner Police Department, Gardiner Public Library, Christ Church, Matt Bear-Fowler, Representative Thom Harnett, Mayor Patricia Hart, and several other residents.
 
This is the first in a series of educational activities and conversations that the committee will be organizing and promoting over the upcoming months.

This Zoom webinar will provide participants with a better understanding of what cultural competency and implicit bias mean, how our understanding of culture impacts the way we interact and communicate with others, and how to take steps to become more culturally competent.
