On September 17, 2020, the Kern County Sheriff's Office Critical Incident Review Board convened to consider the use of lethal force, which resulted in the death of a Cesar Ruiz, on August 20, 2020, by Deputy Mario Garza.
The Critical Incident Review Board consisted of Chief Deputy Damian Nord, Chief Deputy Larry McCurtain, and Commander Michael DeLeon.
After a review of all the facts involved in the case, the Critical Incident Review Board determined the force used by Deputy Garza in this incident was within departmental policy.
