BURR RIDGE IS IN WEST SUBURBAN REGION 8 – “MASK FOR US”
Happy Friday – our last summer weekend is upon us, but here’s some good news: as of today, DuPage County has been moved back to the “BLUE” category on the IDPH County Level COVID-19 Risk Metrics scale. This category means that DuPage County is experiencing overall stable COVID-19 metrics over the past week – which has been the case in Burr Ridge overall for our Cook and DuPage sides. Will and Kane County have also been removed from the watch list, meaning that the overall area’s health metrics have improved. The total case count in Burr Ridge now is 251 (182 in DuPage and 69 in Cook), up only eleven in the past week. The 14-day active case count for the Village is 19, which compares favorably with our neighbors and the state. Positivity Rate, Hospital Admissions, and Medical Bed and ICU Bed Availability metrics remain statistically stable for our region. Take credit in this news; it is due to all of our sacrifices we have made to fight the spread of the virus; however, good news does mean relaxing our vigilance.
The CDC continues to note that older adults and people of any age with serious underlying medical conditions remain at higher risk for developing more severe illness from COVID-19. People at higher risk of severe illness should call their doctor as soon as symptoms start. The CDC notes that emergency warning signs for COVID-19 include trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure in the chest, new confusion, inability to wake or stay awake, bluish lips or face. If any of these occur, seek immediate medical help. These are not exclusive signs – these are some of the most serious ones. Do not hesitate to call 911 if you are uncertain about a person’s medical condition.
With autumn and cooler weather upon us, I am exploring options for heating the tents with owners of Capri, Eddie Merlot’s, Patti’s, Topaz, and Falco’s. Staff has also been working to identify effective indoor air purification options, such as UV light, for restaurants to ensure that indoor dining in Burr Ridge is the safest village to shop and dine. A factually-incorrect letter was published last week regarding the tent program and other expenditures; the Board has not incurred the listed dollar amounts listed about the tent program nor have options regarding permanent structures been considered. Residents have also continued to inquire about recent robocalls seeking information about national and Burr Ridge political issues. The Village does not engage in such intrusive practices.
Kudos to Burr Ridge-based MicroSonic Solutions, whose proprietary nanotech disinfectant is now in use by United Airlines to sanitize their plane fleet. MicroSonic generously provided the Village (at no cost!) with its product at the outset of the pandemic in March 2020 for use in our buildings and vehicles to protect our employees and the public from transmission of COVID-19. Village staff provided valuable feedback on their company’s systems, while the company’s President, who is also a Burr Ridge resident, used this feedback to refine their products.
