HOMICIDE SUSPECT FORMALLY CHARGED

On Sunday September 20, 2020 at approximately 12:50 a,m, Harper Woods Public Safety Officers responded to the 19100 block of Woodside on the report of a female who was shot and deceased in the back yard. Officers confirmed the 37 year old female resident at that location had been shot one time and was deceased. There were no additional victims at the scene.

The suspect was quickly identified and arrested in less than an hour. Harper Woods detectives recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the crime.

On Tuesday September 22, 2020 STEVEN MARK BRATTON, a 42 year old Harper Woods resident, was formally charged in 32-A District Court in front of the Honorable Judge Daniel S. Palmer. BRATTON was charged as follows:

Count 1: Homicide-Murder First Degree-Premeditated
Count 2: Weapons-Firearms-Possession By Felon
Count 3: Weapons-Felony Firearm
Count 4: Weapons-Felony Firearm

BRATTON was denied bond and remanded to the Wayne County Jail. BRATTON has a Preliminary Examination date scheduled for October 07, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in 32-A District Court. If convicted, BRATTON faces life in prison.
