INCIDENT: Stolen Property From Multiple Burglaries Recovered, Two Suspects Arrested

LOCATION: 800 Block Edgemoor Road, Big Bear Lake

SUSPECT(S): Manuel Alvarado, 40 years old, resident of Apple Valley
Brian Udink, 47 years old, resident of Hesperia

VICTIM(S):

SUMMARY:

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 800 block of Edgemoor Road, Big Bear Lake. The victim advised responding deputies that he had been out of town for a couple of weeks, but had locked his house and left vehicles in his driveway prior to leaving. When the victim returned home, one of the vehicles was gone.

The victim found his front door to be closed, but not locked, and the inside of the residence had been ransacked. Security footage captured two individuals breaking in to the victim's residence on September 10. The subjects were seen on video leaving the victim's residence with stolen property, including guitars and other items. After taking inventory of his house, the victim reported a shotgun, surfboard, and road bike were also missing and believed to have been stolen.

Through investigation, Detectives from the Big Bear Sheriff's Station determined the burglars to be individuals who were working at a residence under construction across the street from the victim's house. The individuals were identified as Manuel Alvarado, a resident of Apple Valley, and Brian Udink, a resident of Hesperia.

On September 18, Detectives made contact with Manuel Alvarado at the house across the street from the victim. At the conclusion of an interview with Alvarado, he was arrested and booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of burglary. Manuel Alvarado is currently out of custody on a $75,000 bail bond with a court hearing scheduled for December 21 in San Bernardino County Superior Court.

The second suspect, Brian Udink was not with Alvarado at the time he was contacted in Big Bear. Deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff's Station located Udink in Hesperia on September 18. Udink was found to be in possession of the stolen vehicle, shotgun and guitars from the Big Bear burglary, as well as stolen property from other reported burglaries in Hesperia. Udink was taken into custody without incident and booked into the High Desert Detention Center on felony charges of burglary. Udink bailed out of custody on a $75,000 bail bond and is scheduled to appear in San Bernardino County Superior Court on December 17.

The stolen property of the Big Bear victim, as well as additional victims in Hesperia, was recovered as a result of the cooperative efforts of patrol Deputies and Detectives of the Big Bear and Hesperia Sheriff's Stations.
