Crescenta Valley Station, Angeles Forest Law Enforcement Step Up Traffic Enforcement in The Angeles National Forest.

Over the last month, Crescenta Valley Station and Angeles National Forest Law Enforcement Officers teamed up to enforce vehicle code violations in the Angeles National Forest.  The purpose of the saturation patrols was to ensure the safety of the public when travelling on Angeles Crest Highway, Little Tujunga Canyon Road, Big Tujunga Canyon Road, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, and Angeles Forest Highway.

During the enforcement period, over thirty citations were written for various offenses.  Parking laws along Big Tujunga Canyon Road were enforced.  Some of the equipment violations included no license plates and exhaust modifications requiring a smog referee inspection.  Many of the moving violations included crossing double yellow lines, following too closely, and speed.  One driver was cited for doing 80 MPH in a 55 MPH zone while another was cited for over 90 MPH.  Lastly, several drivers were cited for doing donuts and subsequently had their vehicles towed.

We hope at some point soon the Angeles National Forest will be open for public use.  Deputies from Crescenta Valley Station will continue to work with officers from the Angeles National Forest in order to maintain traffic safety on the mountain roads.  Below are some of the most important rules to remember:

  • Please slow down and obey the 45 MPH or 55 MPH speed limits.
  • If you have traffic backing up behind you, use the turnouts to allow them to pass.
  • Never pass over a double yellow line.
  • Allow ample space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
  • Racing, exhibition of speed, and doing donuts will result in citation and possible loss of your car.
  • Parking within 30 feet of the roadway along all of Big Tujunga Canyon Road is prohibited.
If you need to report an incident, please call our station 818-248-3464.  If it is an emergency, call 911.  Please remember that cell phones may not always have reception in the mountainous areas of the forest.
