RED FLAG WARNING/FLEX ALERT/SPARE THE AIR
Extremely warm weather coupled with smoke from the Glass Fire coming down into the Bay Area has created challenging conditions for the day. The East Bay is under several different warnings at present which include:
Excessive Heat: temperatures are expected to be in the upper 90s to 100s today. If you will be working outside, be sure to stay hydrated, use sunscreen and take breaks as often as possible.
Red Flag Warning: this warning has been extended to the East Bay through 6 am Saturday. Residents are encouraged to use caution when using gas powered devices (mowers etc) in dry grass and avoid open flames outdoors.
Flex Alert: Due to the high heat, a Flex Alert has been issued for 3pm - 10pm today. During that time residents are asked to avoid using large electrical appliances (washer/dryers), keep thermostats set no lower than 78 degrees and turn off any unnecessary lights.
Spare the Air Day: As the orange tinged skies can attest, smoke from the Glass Fire is in our area. The alert has been issued through Friday and could potentially be extended into the weekend. During a Spare the Air Alert, residents are asked to avoid any outdoor burning, limit use of gas-powered devices, and use caution when performing strenuous activities outdoors.
As we continue through these hot, dry, days, residents are reminded to use extra caution outdoors and be sure to stay hydrated. Stay safe!
