Hollister Police Conduct Multiple DUI Checkpoints in September
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – October 1, 2020 – On September 5th and September 26th, 2020, Hollister Police Department conducted checkpoints at different locations in the city in an effort to reduce impaired driving and educate the public as to the dangers of driving under the influence.
The checkpoints led to the arrests of four residents for driving under the influence, and issuing 56 citations for violations of driving on a suspended license and/or unlicensed driver. Another two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence in other parts of the city on those days.
The following persons were arrested for DUI during these two high enforcement days:
Chari Walker, 41 yrs, BAC .11%
Jesus Canales Dominguez, 28 yrs, BAC .19%
Leonard Smith, 54 yrs, BAC .25%
Andy Carrion, 40 yrs, BAC .31%
Martin Gonzales, 55 yrs, BAC .08%
Priscilla Delrio, 27 yrs, BAC .19%
It is illegal for anyone to operate a vehicle with a .08% Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) or higher in California. As you can see, several of these drivers are at least double, and in one case almost four times what is legally allowed to operate a vehicle. As businesses continue to reopen, including bars and restaurants, impaired driving remains a top traffic safety concern.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
