Traffic collision last night resulted in one fatality

COSTA MESA, Calif. – A traffic collision that occurred last night resulted in one fatality.


Yesterday, Oct. 2, 2020, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of Harbor Blvd. regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Upon arrival, officers located the 68-year-old male Costa Mesa victim and determined he was deceased. His name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
 
The driver, who was driving a tow truck and was uninjured,  remained at the scene and cooperated with officers during the investigation. Officers determined the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No arrests were made.
 
The CMPD Major Accident Investigation Team was dispatched to the scene  to conduct the collision investigation. The Orange County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene and took custody of the victim. 
 
The investigation is ongoing. CMPD is asking anyone with additional information about this traffic collision to contact Traffic Officer Kha Bao at (714) 754-5264.
