Crime Blotter for the Week of September 27-October 3

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of September 27 – October 03, 2020        
 
September 27, 2020

  • Attempt Grand Theft Auto:
An attempt grand theft of a vehicle was reported on 2300 Block of Oakhaven Drive. Person(s) unknown punched in the driver’s side door lock of the victim’s GMC 1500 Sierra and entered the vehicle. The suspect removed the plastic cover on the steering wheel, which exposed the ignition wires. The vehicle was not stolen. No surveillance video of the incident could be located. The estimated loss was $1,000 for the damage to the door and steering wheel column.
 
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon:
An assault with a deadly weapon was reported on the 1200 Block of Highland Avenue. Two male Hispanics drove southbound Highland Avenue and approached two males standing near the front gate. The victims saw the passenger of the vehicle point a firearm at them, at which time both victims started to run. The victims heard three gunshots as they were running, and one of the victims was shot in the leg. The suspect vehicle continued to drive south on Highland Avenue and out of view. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Surveillance video captured the incident.

September 29, 2020
  • Grand Theft Auto:
Between 08-14-20, 8:00 am, and 09-29-20, 3:15 pm, a grand theft auto was reported at the Nissan Dealership, located at 1434 Buena Vista Street.Unknown person(s) stole a 2020 Nissan Altima. The vehicle is a new and did not have a license plate assigned to it. No surveillance video was located. The vehicle is still outstanding.
 
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft was reported at 1050 Huntington Drive (Target). The store manager reviewed the surveillance video and noticed that on 09-29-20, between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, a male adult entered the store and selected several bottles of alcohol, sporting goods, and Pokémon cards and exited the store without paying for the items. Surveillance video captured the incident. The estimated loss was $591.
 
September 30, 2020
  • Petty Theft:
A petty theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported on the 1000 Block of Cabrillo Drive.Between 09-29-20, 11:00 am and 09-30-20, 4:40 am, unknown person(s) entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and a stole soft organizer containing miscellaneous handyman tools. No surveillance video was located. The estimated loss was $50.

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

Annoying or harassing phone calls: 

            California Penal Code 653m
“Every person, who with intent to annoy, telephones or makes contact by means of an electronic communication device with another and addresses to or about the other person any obscene language or addresses to the other person any threat to inflict injury to the person or property of the person addressed or any member of his or her family, is guilty of a misdemeanor. Nothing in this subdivision shall apply to telephone calls or electronic contacts made in good faith.” “Electronic communication device” includes items such as text messages, emails, faxes, etc.

Tips if you are receiving annoying or harassing phone calls:

1. Screen your calls. If you don’t recognize the number, don’t answer it.
2. You have no obligation to stay on the phone, do not engage in conversation.
3. Do not tell a caller where you are or give out personal information such as your name, address, social security number, bank account number.
4. Ask your phone company about privacy options for your mobile/landline phone.
5. Document specific details of annoying/harassing calls in the event you decide to notify police. This information may give valuable clues to the caller’s identity and establish a pattern that may help identify the source or reason for the calls.
