On Wednesday, October 7th, an armed robbery occurred in the 200 block of Jackson Avenue. The victim in the case was approached by a knife-wielding suspect who demanded the victim hand his wallet over. The suspect then proceeded to remove the victim’s wallet from his pants. The suspect fled in a maroon SUV.
A County wide “Be on the Lookout” was sent to partnering law enforcement agencies. A short time later, Mountain View Police Department (MVPD) advised that they had information matching the suspect and vehicle in our case. Later in the afternoon, MVPD located and arrested the suspect after he committed another robbery in their jurisdiction. We’d like to thank our partners at MVPD for their assistance in this case.
We’d also like to take this time to share these very important safety tips with you:
•If you are confronted, cooperate. Give the criminal what he/she asks for. Your life is more valuable than replaceable possessions. Concentrate on remembering a description and call police immediately. Time is of the essence.
•Be alert and aware of the surroundings.
•Opportunistic criminals will usually search for easy targets. Maintain situational awareness and try to make yourself a difficult target.
•Avoid displaying and carrying large sums of money or valuable jewelry in public.
•If you sense that you are being followed, change directions or cross the street. If the person persists, run to the nearest place where you'll find people.
•Always report suspicious activity to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety by dialing 408-730-7180 or dial 9-1-1 to report a crime in progress.
