Deep tropical moisture associated with Delta will continue to overspread the area through Sunday before pushing east of the area by Monday. Bands of moderate to heavy rain will develop later today and increase in coverage tonight into Sunday. Flash flooding will be possible where heavier rain bands set up near the escarpment and adjacent foothills during this time. The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of northeast Georgia...western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina, including the following areas, in northeast Georgia, Habersham and Rabun. In western North Carolina, Avery, Burke Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk, Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, Henderson, Macon, McDowell Mountains, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, Southern Jackson and Transylvania. In upstate South Carolina, Greenville Mountains, Oconee Mountains and Pickens Mountains.

* From this afternoon through Sunday evening

* Deep tropical associated with Delta will support bands of moderate to heavy rain developing late this afternoon and continuing into Sunday. Rainfall rates of around an inch per hour will be possible in stronger bands. Additional rainfall of two to four inches will be common with local amounts of five to seven inches possible in the most favorable upslope areas.

* Saturated soils from earlier rainfall will readily lead to run-off, possibly causing rapid rises and flash flooding of area creeks, streams, or urban areas. Minor river flooding is also possible, but would likely be delayed to later in the day Sunday or even into early next week.

Instructions:

Rainfall of more than five inches in similar storms has been associated with an increased risk of landslides and rockslides. If you live on a mountainside or in a cove at the base of a mountain, especially near a stream, be ready to leave in advance of the storm or as quickly as possible should rising water, moving earth, or rocks threaten. Consider postponing travel along mountain roads during periods of heavy rainfall.
