The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... Habersham County in northeastern Georgia...

* Until 830 AM EDT.

* At 621 AM EDT, Habersham County 911 continues to report widespread flooding and impacts due to the earlier heavy rainfall across the county. New flooding reports continue to come in, including impacts to roads and homes, and larger streams including the Soque and the Chattahoochee are still rising. Daybreak may reveal additional flood impacts not yet reported. Therefore, the Flash Flood threat has not yet ended and the Flash Flood Warning will be extended through 8am to allow streams to crest and to ensure no new flooding occurs. Drivers are urged to obey all barricades and avoid all flooded roadways. Residents near small streams need to seek higher ground for the next few hours and allow adjacent streams to crest and recede before returning to low-lying property. A water rescue is ongoing for residents stranded in their home adjacent to the Soque River so the threat of rising flood waters remains significant.

* Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated that the heavy rainfall has ended across Habersham County. No additional significant rainfall is expected through Sunday morning. However, the county has seen widespread 4-6 inch accumulations since about 10pm last night with storm-total rainfall since Saturday morning of as much as 8 inches. It is important to not let your guard down until streams crest and recede below bankfull levels. HAZARD...Life-threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Law enforcement. IMPACT...Significant, life-threatening flash flooding of small streams, urban areas, low-lying areas adjacent to streams and drainage ditches, low-elevation roadways, farmland, and parks. Flooding of a few structures and a few road washouts remain possible.

* Some locations that are continuing to experience flash flooding include...Clarkesville, Cornelia, Baldwin, Demorest, Mount Airy, Alto, Raoul, Batesville. Urban flooding around Cornelia, Demorest, and Clarkesville is ongoing.
