One Injured In Motorcycle Crash

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on 10/11/2020 at approximately 2003 hours his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash near the intersection of Dutch Settlement Rd and East Street in Penn Township, Cass County Michigan. Deputies arrived on scene and no victim was located near the motorcycle. Cass County Central Dispatch received a 911 call advised a subject started to walk up a driveway in the 16000 block of Marcellus Hwy but left in an unknown direction. Cass County K9 "Faust" was requested to attempt and locate the injured subject. K9 Faust tracked the subject in a thick wooded area approximately 1/4 mile from the crash scene and located the driver with an obvious head injury laying in a ditch.
28-year-old Marcellus, Michigan resident, Travis Herman, was traveling East bound on Dutch Settlement Road. The driver of the motorcycle had ran off the roadway and struck several trees on the side of the road. The driver was transported, by ambulance, to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Speed may have been a factor in the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash.
