Update: Vehicle vs Building Crash
As noted in a previous release, on Monday, October 5, 2020 at about 1:00 AM, the Middleton Police Department investigated a single-vehicle traffic accident that occurred at St. Bernard Catholic Church located at 2015 Parmenter Street.
Upon further investigation since the crash, it has been determined that Aaron Klubertanz, 36, of Middleton was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on University Avenue when he crossed over the center line, then struck and knocked over a traffic light at the intersection with Parmenter Street. Klubertanz continued eastbound and then crashed into the west side of St. Bernard Catholic Church, causing significant damage to his vehicle and the building.
Klubertanz was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt. Officers noted signs of impairment by alcohol from Klubertanz and there were open intoxicants in his vehicle. Klubertanz was ticketed for 3rd offense Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, as well as Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed. A search warrant was obtained for a sample of his blood, but those results are still pending analysis by the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.
