PG&E PSPS Event Expected Not to Affect Lafayette/Red Flag Warning:  Posted 12:42 PM 10/13/20

A possible PG&E PSPS power outage in portions of Contra Costa County, which could occur beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct.14, 2020, is not expected to affect the City of Lafayette. While conditions could change, and the City is working closely with PG&E to monitor the weather, at this time a PG&E PSPS power outage that could take place in surrounding areas is not expected to impact Lafayette's residents.

PG&E has activated its Emergency Operations Center in preparation for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event. Current weather forecasts may require PG&E to turn off power early Wednesday in portions of Alameda, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Lake, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama, and Yuba counties.

In Contra Costa County, a Red Flag Warning is now in effect for Critical Fire Weather Conditions beginning early Wednesday Morning, Oct. 14, 2020, through Friday Morning, Oct. 16, 2020.Critical fire weather conditions are possible mid to late this week across the higher elevations of the North and East Bay as well as the Santa Cruz Mountains. Some of these winds will possibly affect the North Bay and East Bay Valleys. Winds will begin to increase early Wednesday morning, especially over Napa County, but also farther south into the Diablo Range.

The City of Lafayette will provide updated information as needed. To repeat, at this time an expected PG&E PSPS event this week will not affect Lafayette.
