David Ovsiankin Arrested for one count of 422 PC, 1203.3 PC, and 245(a)(1) PC.

On Monday, October 12, 2020, at about 7:01 pm, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (SDPS) received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in-progress on the 1000 block of Yorktown Drive in Sunnyvale. SDPS patrol personnel arrived and located a resident of the home suffering from non-life-threatening facial injuries. The victim stated he had been assaulted by another member of the household. He stated the suspect had assaulted him with a metal pipe and had made threats against his life. The victim was able to fight off the suspect and fled the home before calling 9-1-1. The victim was treated at the hospital for his injuries, and later released. Two other residents of the home exited safely and were uninjured.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Sunnyvale resident, David Ovsiankin, refused police orders to exit the home. SDPS officers made continual efforts through the evening to communicate with the suspect via telephone and a PA system to peacefully exit. SDPS requested for and members of the Santa Clara County’s Mobile Crisis Response Team responded on scene to assist officers in their communication with the suspect. Despite continued efforts, the suspect refused to exit the home.

The suspect was on searchable probation out of Santa Clara County and a $75,000 Ramey warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officers maintained presence around the residence and on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at approximately 9:11 AM, SDPS officers entered the home and took the suspect into custody, without incident – after a 14-hour stand-off.

David Ovsiankin was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for one count of 422 PC—Criminal Threats, 1203.3 PC—Probation Violation and 245(a)(1) PC—Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
