Lamorinda area is under a Red Flag Fire Warning through Friday. Please be careful and help prevent fires.
The Lamorinda area and East Bay hills and valleys are currently under a Red Flag Fire Weather Warning. This means that critical fire weather conditions are predicted to be occurring from this morning (Wednesday) through Friday. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can all contribute to extreme fire behavior and cause these hazardous conditions.
Residents should take precautions and consider the following:
- Avoid mowing or using equipment around dry grass (this is how Sunday’s fire was started);
- Remember that MOFD has prohibited outdoor fires;
- Do not park vehicles on or drive vehicles through dry grass (vehicle exhausts are HOT and can ignite dry grass);
- Report suspicious activity; and
- If you are pulling a trailer, ensure that the chains are not dragging and causing sparks (this is how the Carr Fire started near Redding in 2018 and burned over 1600 structures).
Please call 9-1-1 to report any fires or suspicious activity. Questions about fire safety and prevention can be directed to the Moraga-Orinda Fire District at 925-258-4599. Thank you for helping us to keep Moraga a safe community.
