Safely Dispose of Unwanted/Expired Prescription Medication on Oct 24, 2020 as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

ESPD is once again partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration to help safely dispose of unwanted/expired medication as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
On October 24, 2020 from 10am-2pm, anyone with unwanted/expired medication can safely dispose of the items at the El Segundo Maintenance Facility located at 150 Illinois Street (sorry but syringes will not be accepted). We are providing this free service while maintaining proper social distancing safety measures. For city employees who would like to drop off their unwanted medication early, please contact Sergeant Luke Muir at [email protected] or at (310) 524-2295 to make drop off arrangements.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue. According to the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
The National Take Back Day events provide an opportunity to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
