El Cerrito Police Department: Package Theft Suspects and Information

El Cerrito Police Department Package Theft Suspects and Information:

In combination with the COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming holiday season, many consumers rely on the use of online vendors to do their shopping. Unfortunately, package theft is an all too common occurrence. Package thieves often follow delivery trucks around town and shortly after packages are delivered, they will scoop them up. They will also come around early in the morning and look for packages which have not been yet been received. Here are a couple of examples of recent package thieves in operation:

Package Theft:
On Oct. 4th, at approx. 12:08 AM, an unknown suspect stole packages from in front of a community member’s residence. See video link below:

Mail Theft:
On Oct 8th, at approx. 4:26 AM, an unknown suspect pried open mailboxes and removed mail. He also checked a car door before departing. See the below video link:

Package Theft:
On Oct 13th, at approx. 12:40 PM, an unknown suspect stole a community member’s package from their front porch. See video link below:

If you can identify any of the suspects depicted in these incidents, please contact Sgt. Cliatt at (510) 215-4418 or [email protected].

Here are some considerations for preventing package theft:
Choose an alternative delivery site if you are not going to be home. You can elect to have your packages delivered to your place of employment or to a delivery site such as an Amazon, Fed Ex, UPS or the Post Office drop sites. It can be inconvenient, but it does help your packages reach you safely. Subscribing to delivery alerts help you secure your packages as soon as they are delivered. If you have a very important delivery, opt into delivery by signature only. If you have a lot of package deliveries, you may wish to consider installing a package lock box. Cameras and video doorbells can also serve as a deterrent. If you set the motion activation feature on your cameras, you can receive instant notification that your package has arrived. If you are going to be out of town, arrange for a friend to pick up your mail and packages for you.
