SHERIFF VICTOR HILL Orders 20 Jail Supervisors Terminated After Overtime Fraud Investigation.
By order of Sheriff Victor Hill 20 members of the jail command staff at the Clayton County Jail are no longer in their positions effective today. From the top-down officers in ranking positions have been placed on administrative leave without pay for termination next week, or have opted to resign or retire in lieu of termination.
This occurred after the Sheriff ordered a investigation by his Internal Affairs Division into the unauthorized use of excessive over-time. Investigators found that the unauthorized abuse of over-time added up to nearly a million dollars in a 3 month period of the fiscal year that started in July.
The investigation discovered that supervisors who were in charge of managing and approving overtime instead were approving an extravagant amount of overtime for themselves without request or authorization from a superior. This is in violation of Sheriff’s Office policy. Supervisors would then get other supervisors of equal or lower rank to put the overtime on the Kronos pay system for them since the system does not allow them to enter in their own over-time.
The Sheriff has already replaced more than half of the commanders that he ordered terminated to continue normal jail operations without interruption. This internal investigation will be forwarded to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
