Folsom Police Department Receives Grant to Prevent Tobacco Sales to Minors
Folsom, CA – Folsom Police Department is awarded a three-year $102,606.20 grant from the California Department of Public Health for special enforcement and public education to prevent tobacco sales to minors.
It is illegal for a retailer in United States to sell any tobacco product, including cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes to anyone under 21.
“The Folsom Police Department is committed to keeping our young people safe and improving quality of life through both enforcement and education,” said Folsom Police Department Sergeant Aaron Zelaya.
The grant will fund personnel time for sworn officers and administrative staff, as well as:
- Business trainings for tobacco retailers,
- Educational presentations at Folsom elementary, middle and high schools,
- Minor decoy operations,
- Shoulder tap decoy operations,
- Partnership in the Sacramento County Tobacco Control Coalition, and
- Compliance checks at local tobacco retailers.
The grant programs will run until July 1, 2023.
