DEA NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK DRIVE-THRU EVENT - LAKEPORT, CA
Date: October 24, 2020
For Further information contact Lieutenant Dale Stoebe or Records/Evidence Manager Tammy Prather
Please join us on October 24, 2020 from 9am to 1pm at the Lakeport Police Department 2025 South Main Street as we work with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to properly dispose of unused or expired prescription and over the counter drugs/supplements while still complying with COVID-19 requirements. THIS IS A DRIVE-THRU EVENT ONLY. All solid medications must be removed from prescription bottles. Please properly dispose of your own containers. Liquids can be brought in their containers. All solid medications must be in a clear plastic bag(s) and can be mixed in the same bag(s). All Vaping Cartridges are accepted. Any Vaping Devices must have their batteries removed. NO needles, inhalers, or aerosol cans.
Several thousand police agencies are expected to hold events throughout the United States on the same day. These events typically take in around 900,000 pounds of prescription drugs. Proper disposal of expired or unused prescription drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why it is great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously - a record amount of prescription drugs. Additionally, if not properly disposed of these drugs can contaminate the environment and our water sources.
This event will further our efforts since inception to help remove unused or expired dangerous drugs from homes in our community which to date exceeds hundreds of pounds.
At the conclusion of this event Lakeport Police Officers will transport the drugs out-of-county to deliver them to DEA Agents who will properly destroy them, by incineration, along with those collected by other police agencies across the United States. The DEA has also announced that in an effort to help combat the continued vaping health crisis across the country, Vaping cartridges and devices without batteries now can be accepted at collection sites.
There is no cost for community members to dispose of medications at this Take Back event and we will not collect information on people disposing of them.
Accepted: All over the counter or prescription medication and supplements in pill, tablet or capsule form including schedule II-V controlled and non-controlled substances, liquids, Vaping cartridges, and Vaping devices without batteries.
Not Accepted: Illegal drugs, needles, inhalers, or aerosol cans.
