On the morning of October 20, 2020, Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to two local hospitals for two victims of gunshot wounds. Deputies determined the shootings happened in the west alley of the 900-block of N. Chester Ave. Deputies responded to that location and located evidence of a shooting. In addition to locating evidence of a shooting, deputies also located an illegal internet casino. Approximately nine people were located around the casino and detained. Deputies served a search warrant at the location and seized evidence related to the shooting, four illegal gaming machines, one handgun, ammunition and body armor. Deputies arrested Maytham Mnaather (22 y/o) for resisting arrest, felon in possession of ammo, felon in possession of a firearm and keeping a gambling premises.
Deputies have served multiple search warrants previously at the location on N. Chester for operating an illegal internet casino. Deputies have not located the suspect in the shooting and are requesting anyone with information to contact the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.
