Burr Ridge Police Update on "Ruse" Residential Burglary - Please share with neighbors, family, & friends. 
Burr Ridge Residents,
On October 20, 2020 at approximately 5:15 pm, Officers responded to a "Ruse" residential burglary that occurred in the 8900 block of Royal Drive.
The resident told officers that a male subject wearing all dark clothing and a black face mask came to her door and said he was with the "Water Department" and had to check the pipes because a "neighbor was selling their home". The subject was let inside the home and distracted the resident in the kitchen by continuously talking and turning the water faucet on and off. During this time, it appears a second subject entered the home and went to a different area of the house and stole jewelry.
The subject(s) left the house and drove away in a light blue Kia Soul. This vehicle has been seen leaving the area of at least two similar burglaries in area suburbs.
While the Burr Ridge Police Department continues to investigate this crime, we are asking residents to use these ruse burglary prevention strategies:

While the Burr Ridge Police Department continues to investigate this crime, we are asking residents to use these ruse burglary prevention strategies:
- Do not allow anyone inside of your home unless you know them, or have a scheduled appointment.
- Do not be lured out of your home or into the backyard without locking your doors.
- No Village Employee will need to enter your home to "check your water", "Check for COVID", or take you into your backyard to "look at trees".
- If a person claims to be with a local government agency or public utility, ask them for the identification.
- If someone comes to your house asking for help, tell them you will call the police for them.
- Please be ready to provide a description of the offenders, ie, height, weight, clothing, as well as of the offender’s vehicle, including a license plate number.
- Immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911.
