Beware of Potential Scams
Earlier today, several northeast Ohio residents reported receiving phone calls from a man identifying himself as Rocky River Police Detective Keith Hunter, telling them that their social security number had been compromised, and asking for a return phone call.
The Rocky River Police Department does not have anyone named Keith Hunter working as a Detective or in any other capacity. The phone number provided does not belong to the Rocky River Police Department, and the phone number on the caller ID is not a Rocky River Police Department number.
If anyone calls claiming to be a member of the RRPD, you may verify that by calling 440-331-1234 and selecting Ext. 0 to talk with a dispatcher. Do not provide personal identifying information, including birth dates or social security numbers, to people that call you unless you are certain whom you are talking to. Legitimate businesses will always allow you to call a number you are familiar with and are certain is legitimate in the rare circumstances it is necessary to provide personal information over the phone.
