Winter is on its way to Jackson Hole. Are you ready? See email for winter preparedness info.
We have already had snow in the valley, and cold temperatures are on their way to Jackson Hole. Now is the time to get prepared for the approaching Wyoming winter. In addition to getting your vehicle ready for winter commuting by putting your “Wyoming Bag” in the trunk with warm clothes, a sleeping bag, food, and other items, you should also get your Winter Digital Toolkit ready. Your Winter Digital Toolkit are sources of information that you should have bookmarked or apps you should download now before severe winter weather hits so you can make informed decisions for you and your family. A comprehensive list of winter road and weather information is attached with embedded hyperlinks to help you navigate to these information sources.
A quick reminder for our Nixle subscribers: Teton County Emergency Management (who administers Nixle for Teton County government) does not send routine road closure information for state highways. This includes Highway 22 Teton Pass, S Highway 89 Snake River Canyon, and N Highway 89 through Grand Teton National Park, among others. These highways are outside of our jurisdiction and are the jurisdiction of the Wyoming Department of Transportation. WYDOT has a robust alert system called 511 Notify that you can register for to receive text and/or email notifications for the types of events on the state highways you are concerned about. This is the official authoritative source for state highway information, and Teton County Emergency Management highly recommends the 511 Notify system.
One last reminder – earlier this year Nixle changed their text messaging alerting policies. If you notice that you are no longer receiving text messages from Nixle for lower-priority messages, but you are receiving the emails, it is because of this change. Visit www.nixle.com and follow the instructions to log into your account. Delete all email addresses from your account and you should begin receiving text messages again for lower-priority messages. You will always receive text messages from Nixle for the most critical life-safety messages, even if you have an email on file. You can also download the Nixle Everbridge Mobile App to get push notifications on your mobile device for Nixle messages from Teton County Emergency Management. Simply search for the zip code 83001 in the app to find Teton County Emergency Management and subscribe.
