El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter - Oct. 16th to Oct. 22d, 2020.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
October 16th
Petty Theft – 2700 block of Del Monte Ave:
At 1:07 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole a license plate from the victim’s vehicle sometime earlier in the week.
Grand Theft, Vandalism – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 3:08 pm, an officer reports an unknown group of suspects entered the business and stole a large quantity of merchandise. During the theft, the doors to the business were damaged by one of the suspects.
Petty Theft – 1700 block of Lexington Ave:
At 4:50 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim’s vehicle sometime during the night.
Stolen Vehicle – 7100 block of Potrero Ave:
At 4:52 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle sometime during the evening.
October 17th
Grand Theft – 10900 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 2:04 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the evening.
Burglary – 1500 block of Everett St:
At 2:10 pm, an officer reports a suspect entered a shed on the property and removed a weed whacker.
October 18th
Petty Theft, Identity Theft – 300 block of Pomona Ave:
At 1:04 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle during the evening and took a wallet. The victim was alerted to the crime after learning several unauthorized transactions had occurred on the credit cards from inside the stolen wallet.
Controlled Substance Possession – Manila Avenue at Kearney Street:
At 1:13 am, an officer conducted a traffic stop and found the driver was on parole. During a parole search both the driver and passenger were found to be in possession of controlled substance. Both subjects were arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued a citation and released.
Vandalism – 3200 Block of Carlson Blvd.
At approximately 6:00 pm, the owner of a truck parked in a vacant lot saw someone slashing the tires through a video surveillance system. When the officer arrived, he found two tires on a vehicle had been slashed and the suspect was gone.
October 19th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Cypress Ave / Creely Ave:
At 7:24 am, an officer located the victim’s stolen vehicle which had been reported stolen 3 days earlier. The vehicle was released to the victim at the scene.
Burglary – 1400 block of Norvell St:
At 11:16 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered a building via an unsecured window and stole property from inside.
Embezzlement – Walgreen’s 11565 San Pablo Ave.:
At 5:09 pm, an El Cerrito police officer arrested a 35-year-old female pharmacy technician who stole approximately $4200.00 worth of narcotics in the last three months. The female was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the County Jail in Martinez.
October 20nd
Grand Theft- Denny’s - 11344 San Pablo Avenue:
At 6:25 am, an unknown suspect entered Denny’s and forcibly ripped the iPad from the hostess table.
Grand Theft- 5400 block of Zara Avenue:
At 09:53 am, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect stealing a catalytic convertor from a Toyota Prius. The theft occurred overnight.
Grand Theft- 11900 San Pablo Avenue:
At 4:11 pm, officers responded to the report of an unknown suspect stealing a catalytic converter from a Prius. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
Grand Theft- 11280 San Pablo Avenue:
At 4:16 pm, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect stealing a catalytic convertor from the suspect’s vehicle. The theft took place sometime over the weekend.
Shoplifting – 11500 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 7:00 pm, an officer reports the citizen’s arrest of a 35-year-old male from San Francisco. The male entered a business selected items and then left without paying. The male was booked and then released on a citation.
Stolen Vehicle Recovery – Liberty Ave/Potrero Ave:
At 10:06 pm, an officer recovered a truck which was reported stolen to the Berkeley Police Department in September.
October 21st
Attempted Auto Theft - 6800 Fairmount Avenue:
At 0830 am, an officer responded to the report of an auto burglary. During the night of the 20th, an unknown suspect broke a window to a truck’s camper shell. The suspect then crawled into the bed of the truck and broke out the back window in an attempt to steal the vehicle.
Domestic Violence / Firearm Possession: 2000 block of Key Blvd:
At 5:03 pm, officers responded to a report of a male subject physically assaulting a woman. As officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot into the adjacent residential area while holding a firearm. The victim was located, and aid and resources were offered. Officers set a perimeter around the area. An extensive search of the area to ensure public safety was conducted with the use of airships, UAS and a Police K-9. The suspect was not located. A loaded, high capacity firearm magazine was found in the suspect’s vehicle.
October 22nd:
