REGION 8 UNDER RESTRICTIONS – “MASK FOR US”
At 12:01 AM this morning, Region 8 (DuPage and Kane Counties) joined Regions 1, 4, and 7 in receiving additional mitigations to quell the continued increase in positivity rates from COVID19. These mitigations were triggered due to three consecutive days of observed positivity rates at or above 8% in the Region. The Cook County side of the Village (everything east of County Line Road) is not subject to the Governor’s latest restrictions; however, Cook’s positivity rate continues to rise. All but two of our restaurants are in Cook County and will not be impacted by the announcement. Under the new restrictions, DuPage (and Kane) bars and restaurants cannot have indoor bar or food service – and gatherings are now limited to 25 people (instead of 50 maximum). All Downtown businesses and restaurants are permitted to operate as they have been for the last several months. Currently, the previous three days’ observed (October 18-20) positivity rates in DuPage County were 7.8%, 8.1%, and 8.1%, whereas in Cook the previous three rates were 7.2%, 7.2%, and 7.3%. Positivity rates have exceeded 10% in Kane County for the previous six observed days.
The total case count in Burr Ridge now is 320; up nine since Tuesday’s Mayor Message. The Cook County side of Burr Ridge has had 101total reported cases – up 3 since Tuesday; DuPage is at 219 – up six since Tuesday. According to today’s briefing by the IDPH and Governor, hospitalizations are up 17% over the last fourteen days. As for Region 8, general hospital and ICU capacity remains within acceptable parameters – but is going in the wrong direction. Statewide recovery is still at about 97%. What is most significant to me is to watch the impact of infections on hospitalizations, ICU capacities and ventilator availability. At the outset of the pandemic, usually those who contracted COVID-19 were very likely to be admitted, some ended up in ICU, some on ventilators and too many have died. That does not appear – so far – to be the usual course for this surge or second wave. Many that are being tested remain symptom free and many stay home and beat the virus. Death and debilitation rates are still unacceptable. I look for the positive, and I am hopeful those that are or become infected can be more confident that they will make a full recovery without having to be hospitalized. Stay the course – wear those masks, wash your hands frequently and keep physically distanced – and grab for hope that this wearisome and prolonged battle with be won soon.
