PG&E Public Safety Shutoff potentially set for Oct 25, 2020 thru Oct 26, 2020

Due to anticipated high winds, low humidity, dry vegetation, and lack of rainfall, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) have notified us of a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) starting as early as 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 25th, and lasting through Monday, October 26th. According to the PG&E website, limited areas east of 580 in San Leandro that may be impacted.

The City’s Emergency Operations Center has been activated and is in constant communication with the Alameda County Office of Emergency Services and PG&E. We will provide necessary updates as more information becomes available.

Community Resources Centers (CRC) will be set up by PG&E at Formosan United Methodist Church, at 788 Lewelling Boulevard, Merritt College in Oakland, and the UC Berkeley Campus. Snacks and device charging capabilities will be available at the centers. Public Health COVID guidelines will be adhered to, including social distancing and wearing masks. Chabot Park will be closed Sunday and Monday unless weather conditions change.

Although specific areas may not be impacted by the PSPS, it is possible that other outages may occur due to the high winds. We urge residents to make necessary plans in the event they lose power.  

Please remember to treat a non-working traffic signal-controlled intersection as if it were controlled by 4 way stop signs. Please use caution when proceeding through those intersections and watch for other motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Also, as a reminder, please use extreme caution when you are outdoors. If you see downed power lines, please do not approach them and dial 911 immediately.
